Because of Landon’s prematurity, he was able to qualify for Early Intervention services. This allows an occupational therapist to come to our house once a week to work with Landon on where he’s behind — encouraging him to look to his left and feeding issues.
The stretches are easy enough to do and he’s slowly voluntarily looking to his left now and then. Eating has been more of an issue. He can easily take an hour to finish only four ounces and he frequently leaks milk and lacks good suction on the bottle.
We’ve tried many brands and he seems to have done the best with Dr. Browns so far. I’d been hoping I avoid them because of all the parts, but it looks like we’ll be making the switch! I did read I can pump directly into these bottles, which will help eliminate washing so many pumping bottles at least.
He also has an upcoming evaluation for a lip and tongue tie, both of which could contribute to his latching, sucking and coordination difficulties. If that is fixed we’re hopeful that also will ease feeding for both of us!
