The day after I resigned from my old job, I got an even bigger surprise: a positive pregnancy test!

We waited until about 8 weeks in to start telling our closest family members, and waited another few weeks after that to tell extended family and friends. People were thrilled at the news of another baby in the family and we were constantly surrounded by support and love.

By and large, my pregnancy wasn’t too bad. I lucked out and had no nausea and very little discomfort. At 20 weeks, Brian and I went to the anatomy ultrasound and learned we were going to have a BOY. Our little boy has four boy cousins on my side, as well as quite a few boy distant cousins. (He’s the first in his generation on Brian’s side.)

We hadn’t even talked about names prior to the ultrasound, not wanting to spend time thinking about boy names if we were going to have a girl and vice versa. It didn’t take us long to decide on Landon as a first name. We then chose Scott as a middle name, which has family significance on both sides. Brian’s brother’s middle name is Scott and he’s largely of Scottish descent. I have a beloved uncle named Scott and Scott also is my maternal grandmother’s maiden name.

Landon was due around May 29 and, with my birthday being May 30, I anticipated having a birthday buddy and spending my 34th birthday in the hospital celebrating the new little life Brian and I created. The countdown was on!
